BLOG #3

As they grown older, Pip and Estella have different realizations that have immediate impacts on their progression. Pip has realized that he is not living up to his expectations because he is way to focused on Estella. Even though he has become aware of this , he can't help him self. Because of this obsession, he is now stressed out all the time and has been turning hostile towards Drummle and all the others who are fascinated by Estella. Estella has realized that Miss Havisham has turned her cold and mean. In chapter 38 Estella and Miss Havisham start to argue because Estella gets fed up with Miss Havisham and her ways. She becomes aware that Miss Havisham is like a puppeteer and that Estella was her puppet. The immediate result was her no longer being in good terms with Miss Havisham, and that she is aware of how she treats Pip differently from the other men that love her. These realizations will being them together. Pip will see how he will be miserable for the rest of his life unless he can be with Estella permanently. Estella will see how even after all of her cold and mean insults that were trying to throw Pip off her trail, that Pip stuck with her and that she in fact actually likes him as well. Although these realizations have immediate negative impacts, they will come through in the end, bringing Pip and Estella together at last.

Blog # 2

Estella

Estella is a very beautiful and proper name and she fits the part as well, but the her name may be misleading because she is rude and insulting which allows her to wreak havoc on the men of England. Estella is Latin for star, and at first glance, that's what she is, "very pretty and very proud." Pip is mesmerized with Estella. He thinks she is very beautiful, and is not very happy when she leaves. As a star catches the eye of the astronomer, Estella catches the eye of Pip. If Estella was indeed a star, she would be the sun. Beautiful, but hot and scornful. Can't live without her, but she can be too hot and burning for Pip's taste. An example of this is when Mrs. Havisham tells Estella to break Pip's heart. She laughs at his clothing and makes fun of the way he sings and says certain things. Estella is very accurately named and the name fits her personality perfectly. From what is known about her from previous chapters and from the origin of her name, she is probably very smart, and will have a "bright" future.

Quotation Analysis 1 (Joe)

Joe

Even though Mrs. Joe physically abuses and doesn't show much respect for Joe and Pip, Joe loves her, and he is thankful that she came into his life.
Pip clearly doesn't like his sister, and she doesn't really like him at all either. Only Joe is able to look past the abuses of Mrs. Joe. He has learned to appreciate who she really is. In the quote, he said he was very lonely until Mrs. Joe came along. This was true, and he realizes that without Mrs. Joe he would just be a lonely, sad, blacksmith. Also, Pip coming along with his sister was an extra bonus to him. Him and Pip have a friendship that helps them get through the abuses of Mrs. Joe. He also says to pip that Mrs. Joe is a fine woman. She raised Pip "by hand" and agreed to house Pip and feed him. Although she gets frustrated at Pip and Joe a lot, Joe sees that she really as the best intentions, even if Pip strongly disagrees.
